The Philadelphia Economic Equity Project (PEEP) is the research arm of the Public Service and Policy Initiative (PSPI) at the Stuart Weitzman Design at the University of Pennsylvania.
We conduct research on Philadelphia residents across a range of socioeconomic experiences.
Our work creates an information system that captures how economic hardship is visible in life outcomes such as health, education, housing, and job access.
We value individuals’ lived experiences and would not be able to do this work without the community’s contribution. PEEP’s mission is to understand experiences of economic hardship and instability in Philadelphia, and to support community-based policy solutions that improve economic mobility.
Our actionable data is relevant to policymakers, practitioners, investors, and community members, and our hope is that Philadelphia’s public servants will use our work to make data-informed solutions that improve the lives of those in our city.
“This endeavor is about getting the research and work into the hands of those on the frontlines… Just a one percent change (in poverty) equals improving the lives of 15,000 people (in Philadelphia).”
- Michael A. Nutter, former Mayor of Philadelphia
