Frequently Asked Questions: Participation
1. Why am I being asked to participate?
Your address was randomly selected to represent other households in Philadelphia.
2. How long will the study take?
We are inviting you to join our next panel of participants. If you agree to join, we will send you 4 short surveys a year for the next 3 years. Each survey will take about 25 minutes to complete.
3. When can I expect new surveys?
We will send you new surveys to complete every three months. This is the survey schedule:
4. What do I need to do to participate?
The easiest way to participate is to complete the survey online. Scan the QR code in the letter you received. If you don’t have it anymore, email or call us. Call us at 215-898-2070 to complete the survey by telephone.
5. Can I complete the survey in a language other than English?
Yes! Our online survey can also be completed in Spanish.
6. I didn’t receive an invitation letter; can I join a panel to complete surveys?
To make sure that we’re reaching the widest range of people who live in Philadelphia, randomly selected addresses received an invitation to participate in the survey. If you did not receive an invitation from us, you cannot complete a survey or join the panel.
7. What is PEEP doing with my responses?
First, we make sure the information is anonymous, then we use it to compare it with other data we’ve collected to understand what Philadelphians experience living here.
8. How can I view PEEP data?
Once we have made the data anonymous and prepared it for release, you will be able to find it here on our website.
9. I want to stop participating; what do I do?
Email or call us [link] to let us know and we will not contact you for future surveys.
10. Do I have to let you know when I get a new phone number/email address/home address?
The surveys will have a space for you to share relevant contact updates. If you need to let us know before we remind you of the next survey, call or email us and we will update your information.
11. I moved away from Philly; can I still participate in future surveys?
The survey will ask you if you moved away and ask follow-up questions about your move. After that, we unfortunately cannot continue to include you in the panel.
12. I tried to complete the survey, but it says its “inactive”. Can I still submit my answers?
An inactive survey means the survey is no longer available, and the submission window is closed. You will still receive reminders for the newest surveys when they become available.
13. How am I getting paid for my responses?
We upload $20 after each completed survey to your assigned pre-paid card from the company Clincard. These can be virtual or physical cards. Information on how to get or replace your Clincard are at the end of the surveys. Please look to the following FAQ for payment-specific questions.
Frequently Asked Questions: Payment for Participation
1. I’ve finished the survey; how do I get my physical card?
If you requested a new physical card, it will arrive in the mail about 1 to 2 weeks after you completed the survey. It will come with instructions for how to activate and use it. Be sure to read all the materials included in the envelope.
You will have to contact us at (844) 618-4088 or PEEP.info@sp2.upenn.edu to let us know you received the card, so we can add the payment. This is to make sure the payment will not get lost in the mail. To make payment for future surveys faster and easier, please keep the card so we can reload it.
2. I’ve finished the survey; how do I get my virtual card?
If you requested a new virtual card, look out for an email from the card company Clincard with the subject line “Your Virtual ClinCard has arrived”. It should arrive about 1 week after you complete the survey. You will have to enter your birth year to access it. Save the Clincard email with the access link to make payment for future surveys faster and easier. You can also follow their instructions on how to add the card to their app or a virtual wallet.
3. I never received my virtual card after completing a survey. What happened?
If you requested a virtual card, search your email inboxes for an email from the card company Clincard with the subject line “Your Virtual ClinCard has arrived”.
It is possible that it was sent to your spam and then automatically deleted after some time. If you can't find it, let us at PEEP know at (844) 618-4088 or PEEP.info@sp2.upenn.edu. We can request that they resend it to you. The request can take about 3-5 business days.
If you never accessed the card, it's possible that Clincard charged holding fees. These fees would remove the payment over time. Fortunately, these can be returned. For security reasons, PEEP cannot request this for you. Call their support number, 1-866-952-3795, and ask to be given back inactivity fees. Follow their questions to verify your information.
4. I never received my physical card after completing a survey. What happened?
If you requested a physical card and never received it, it is possible that it was lost in the mail. Please contact the PEEP team at (844) 618-4088 or PEEP.info@sp2.upenn.edu, and we can send you a new card as soon as possible. There will be instructions in the envelope on how to activate the card once you receive it. To make payment for future surveys faster and easier, please keep the card so we can reload it.
5. I have my virtual card, but it doesn’t have as much money as I thought it would. What happened?
If you did not activate the card for 6 months, Clincard will begin charging holding fees. Fortunately, these can be returned. For security reasons, PEEP cannot request this for you. Call their support number, 1-866-952-3795, and ask to be given back available inactivity fees. Follow their questions to verify your information.
6. I have my virtual card, but it keeps telling me my birthdate is wrong. How do I fix this?
Please contact PEEP at (844) 618-4088 or PEEP.info@sp2.upenn.edu to make sure we have your accurate information. It may have been recorded wrong or Clincard’s system may be out of date. We can update your birthdate with Clincard for you.
7. I got a notification from Clincard that my information changed, but I didn’t ask for that. What happened?
When you complete a new survey, the PEEP team will have to update important information such as phone numbers, email addresses, or birthdates your Clincard account. When we do this, you are notified. The Clincard system is secure and is informing you of the updates we made.
8. How and where can I use my Clincard?
The card can be used like any other Visa debit card - in stores, online, or by phone. You can use "credit" or "debit" options for in-person purchases. To use “debit”, you will need to ask for a PIN number from Clincard. Choosing the “debit” option will allow you to get cash back when making a purchase.
The virtual card can be used in-person at stores that accept virtual wallets.
Please refer to Clincard’s FAQ article for how to add a card to a virtual wallet, how to transfer money, how to get a PIN number, and other questions.
9. How to access my Clincard account online?
You can register your card to create a Clincard account at this website or through the MyClincard app. With an account, you can see statements, balances, and easily replace cards.
